Protein is so important for our children because it helps them build muscles, repair tissues, and synthesize hormones.

Some parents believe that they will get equal benefits from any type of protein.

The truth is that the easiest way to help your body build muscles is by eating what is known as “a complete protein” which is the one that we can find in animal or fish based foods.  This protein supplies nine amino acids that are so essential to our bodies.

The nine amino acids can be found without eating animal or fish based foods by combining what is known as “incomplete protein.”  This is the protein that we can generally find in fruits, grains, and vegetables.  This protein lacks one or more of the essential amino acids.  For this reason, when you eat “incomplete protein” it is important that you learn to combine these foods, so you can obtain the nine essential amino acids that you and your children need.

Tips to Make Healthier Choices for Your Kids

  • Eat skinless chicken parts.
  • Eat boneless skinless chicken breast and turkey because they are the leanest poultry choices.
  • Buy extra lean ground beef which reads 90% lean.
  • Take away all the visible fat from the meat before you cook it.
  • Try not to fry what you cook.
  • While cooking drain any fat.
  • Avoid preparing food with high caloric sauces.
  • Choose fish more often especially the ones with omega and fatty acids such as salmon, trout, tuna, and herring.
